Hang Time – Is There Such a Thing?

Is there such a thing as "Hang Time"? To get straight to the point, scientific laws control this, there is no such thing as "hang time". Most people may not believe this, pointing to their favorite player and at the same time exclaim how he can stay in the air longer than anyone else. But, the fact of the matter is, any basketball player (including “Air Jordan” himself) just looks like they are floating in the air.
Here’s the details of what really happens when a basketball player jumps (but any other sport where jumping is involved applies as well).
Coming down the court, a player jumps and Newton’s third law of physics takes over. This law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. What this means in layman's terms is that the player's foot exerts a force against the floor and the floor exerts a force back. This action/reaction enables the player to leave the floor. The greater the force the player exerts when he pushes against the floor, the more force the floor exerts back - this results in the player jumping higher into the air.
If a player is running during the jump, his/her center of mass follows a parabolic path, which basically looks like a rounded off mountain top. A persons “center of mass” is located around their midsection. This means that, if the person were to stay in exactly the same position during the entire jumping action, his/her midsection (and therefore, entire body) would follow this path. But as a player jumps while running, the center of mass is lifted — and manipulated.
By raising his knees, he raises his center of mass in relation to his head. He does that on his way up. On the way down, however, he lowers his legs and that, in turn brings the center of mass back down. This effectively raises his head in comparison to the center of mass. The head no longer follows the parabola. The head stays at one height.
So what you get is during part of the flight, the head stays at the same height, but ,during the entire time in the air the center of mass follows this parabola.
In essence, the player’s head is the key to why we believe in hang time.
When we look at another person, we don’t usually look at the person's “center of mass”. We usually look at a person's head (or at least the upper part of the whole body) . What happens then is somewhat of an "illusion", but it really is happening; the head stays in the same place for an unnaturally long time because he/she manipulates his center of mass.
Well, if there is no such thing as “hang time”, how is it that one person can stay in the air longer than someone else? The REAL answer is because they JUMP HIGHER.
If you can't increase your hang time then, you have to learn to jump higher! How can you do this? Check out these Vertical Jump Program Reviews for more information.

Ballroom dance

Sent by: White Womens Laptop Totes. Ballroom dance refers to types of social dances that require two people to dance together following a few standard steps. Ballroom dance is a derivation from the word ‘ball’ (social events attended by elites in the early 18th century), that consecutively originates from the Latin word ‘ballare’ meaning "to dance”. The most widely found types of ballroom dance could be mentioned as Quickstep, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Modern Waltz, Viennese Waltz and numerous forms of Latin dances.
Ballroom dance has its origins in England, sometime between the late 18th century and early 19th century, and was performed by the elite classes of society in balls and parties. Gradually over time and during the 19th century, ballroom dance became a trend amongst the middle classes and the working classes who participated in event gatherings at public dance halls.
In the nineteen hundred twenties, the reputation of ballroom dance contests rose dramatically with the result of the setting up of the Ballroom Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in Nineteen twenty-four that was instrumental in standardizing the steps, music and performance of ballroom dance. Today, ballroom dance is performed not only in Europe, but in the Asian-Pacific and the Americas as well. Official ballroom dance contests referred to as DanceSport are commonly available for ballroom exponents with various degrees of skill levels.
The various ballroom dance forms come from various settings and boast of exclusive artistic values, tempos, techniques and beats. Despite these differences, all ballroom dance types do share similar traits.
Performed by two people (usually a man and woman), these dances require that they dance in a certain arrangement which is very famously termed as the ‘Close Hold’. This position requires the two people to maintain five areas of contact – three hand contact points wherein the man’s left hand holds the woman's right hand, the woman’s left hand is positioned on the man's right upper arm and the man's right hand is placed below the left shoulder blade on the woman's back; one elbow contact point wherein the woman's left elbow is placed on the man's right elbow and both arms are maintained in a horizontal line contributing to the ease of movement; one chest contact point wherein the right area of the chest of the man touches the right area of the woman contributing to the expression of feelings and emotions between the two.
To conclude, being one of the finest expressions of love, joyfulness and pain between two people, ballroom dance is a fad that will never fade away.

The Thrill of a Good Game of Keno
May 29, 2009 by
Keno is a game of chance that has a rich and illustrious history. The keno game that we are currently familiar with has undergone remarkable changes since its original inception. Gambling historians have traced its roots as far back as 200 B.C. to a Chinese form called 'The game of the White Dove.' It is well-documented that a form of keno was played in a bingo-like format on the eastern seaboard right around the time of the massive Chinese immigration during the gold rush. Have you tried online keno? Playing at an online casino the is a lot nicer experience than going to the casino these days.
In its contemporary form, keno is something like bingo in that both keno games are based on numbers. Just as with online keno, an individual keno card comes with 80 numbers and the player can pick as many as he or she wants. This is done by circling or otherwise marking them with a pencil or pen. Once the player has picked the numbers, he / she must bring the card back to the clerk at the keno booth. The clerk will then issue a receipt after recording the player's numbers. It's up to the player to redeem any winning ticket before the next round begins, so stragglers need to stay alert. Slightly different though when playing at an online casino given that you are playing on your computer.
When the maximum number of keno games (matching the number of tickets) is finished, the player can redeem any winnings and avoid the peril of a void ticket. Another option is the 'stray and play' ticket, which usually documents 30 or more keno games. Unlike standard keno tickets, the "stray and play" doesn't have to be redeemed immediately and is often good for up to a year after purchase. Note, all this is for offline keno. The online keno game is a bit different.
